Beacon App

Like a safety beacon, the Beacon app is a mobile application designed to improve the safety of Eastern Health’s workforce.

Eastern Health's Beacon App for Employees

The Beacon app aims to improve emergency preparedness and crises communications among our workforce. By downloading the Beacon app, employees, physicians and students:

  • can receive important notifications wherever they are and be alerted in seconds of any critical situation within, or near, Eastern Health sites that affect them, e.g. COVID-19 staff updates or timely information on building closures due to adverse weather;
  • have emergency quick response actions at their fingertips, as well as security contact information and resources; and
  • access a ‘Friend Walk’ feature, which allows employees, physicians or students to share their real-time location virtually, with a contact, to help them get to their destination safely.

Eastern Health’s Beacon app can be used on any Android or iOS mobile device and it is completely safe and easy to use!

How to download the Beacon app?

Personal devices

The Eastern Health Beacon app has a two-part installation process:

If you have an Apple device: If you have an Android device:
Part I:  Get a download code

  1. On your Apple mobile, go to the app distribution portal.
  2. Create a new account in seconds. This is NOT your Eastern Health account.
  3. Choose Apple iOS devices. You will be provided with an individualized download code just for you. Write down this code so you can later redeem it. Or; if you are on your iPhone, click on the code to be redirected to the Apple Store (and jump directly to step 3 in part II).
  4. Exit the app distribution portal.

Part II:  Install on your device

  1. On your device, go to the App Store.
  2. Click on your user profile photo (top right-hand corner).
  3. Once in your account page, click on “Redeem Gift Card or Code”.
  4. Enter the redemption code provided and the Beacon App will download on your phone.
  5. Be sure to enable notifications.
  6. Log into the Beacon App with your Eastern Health credentials (the same as your Eastern Health email).

 

 Part I:  Get a download link

  1. On your Android device, go to the app distribution portal.
  2. Create a new account in seconds. This is NOT your Eastern Health account.
  3. Choose Android device. You will see a “download application” link.

Part II:  Install on your device

  1. On your device, upon login into the app distribution portal, click the “download application” link.
  2. You will see a download starting in your status bar on the top of the screen.
  3. Once finished, go you to ‘Downloads’ folder, via your ‘Files’ folder.
  4. Click the APK file, and follow the prompts.
  5. After installation, click ‘Open.’
  6. Be sure to enable notifications.
  7. Log into the Beacon App with your Eastern Health credentials (the same as your Eastern Health email).

Work devices

If you have an Eastern Health-owned mobile device, then simply go to the “Comp Portal” or “Company Portal” app, sign-in with your Eastern Health credentials, and download the Beacon app directly from this portal.

The Eastern Health Beacon App is for staff only. Please do not share your download code with others. Users will require an Eastern Health email address to log into the Beacon app.
