This historic hospital located on Waterford Bridge Road in St. John’s was first opened in 1855, and named the Waterford Hospital in 1972. The Waterford Hospital primarily provides support and services to people living and working each day with mental illness, addictions and mental health issues.

The new Mental Health and Addictions Centre (MHAC), located at 300 Prince Phillip Drive in St. John’s, opens to patients and clients on April 13, 2025. For more information, please see the news release (NL Health Services Marks Historic Day for Mental Health in Newfoundland and Labrador).
Note: The Psychiatric Assessment Unit (PAU) is relocating from the Waterford Hospital to MHAC on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at 7:00 a.m.
