Project summary

The Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion is a four-story long-term care residence which includes space for recreation therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and spiritual care. It has a mixture of bedroom types: private, semi- private, and double rooms that are larger to accommodate residents who wish to share. It is connected by a double link to the existing Carbonear General Hospital. The residence consists of 228 bed residence, and includes food and laundry services as well as a cafeteria that serves both the long-term care facility and the hospital.

The Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion in Carbonear replaced three smaller facilities within the rural avalon region.

Project summary

This new long-term facility is made up of:

  • two four-story resident towers,
  • a two-story administrative and support services building, and
  • a single story utility building.

The total area of the entire complex is approximately 45,000 square meters with a capacity of 461 long-term care beds. This complex replaces the existing Hoyles and Escasoni Long-Term Care Facility in St. John’s. There is a chapel, beauty parlor, and auditorium in each residence and a food kiosk and gift shop in the centre building.

Pleasant View Towers opened to residents and staff in early summer 2014.
