John O’Dea, QC, is legal counsel with the McInnes Cooper law firm. His principal practice areas have focused on the construction industry, professional and regulatory organizations, municipal government, and the entertainment industry. He is a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canadian Bar Association, American Bar Association, Alternate Dispute Resolution Institute of Canada, Institute of Corporate Directors (NL executive), and Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association.
Mr. O’Dea has had extensive involvement in the community, including having served as past chair of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council, The Rooms Foundation, and the Murphy Centre. Presently, he is co-chair of Faculty of Medicine Development Council; secretary of Business and Arts NL; member of the Advisory Board of the Canadian Society of Decorative Arts; and member of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Public Complaints Commission.
Mr. O’Dea is an alumnus of Memorial University, Dalhousie Law School and Harvard Negotiation Institute. He has a deep interest and involvement in the arts having been named a Patron of the Arts in 2014. He has also been involved in a number of technology start-ups.
