L.A. Miller Centre Referral Information

Outpatient services at L.A. Miller Centre are available for clients aged 16 and older, if not presently enrolled in a public secondary school.  Clients may be seen for assessment and treatment of a variety of disorders including:

  • Dysphagia (swallowing difficulty)
  • Dysfluency (stuttering)
  • Laryngectomy
  • Voice
  • Speech and language difficulty due to degenerative neurological disorders (i.e. parkinson’s disease, ALS etc.)
  • Speech and language difficulty due to brain injury (e.g. traumatic brain injury, stoke).

Clients may self-refer for service for dysfluency and speech and language difficulties due to neurological disorders and brain injury/stroke.

A physician referral is required for laryngectomy, dysphagia and voice disorders.

Cancellation Policy
  • When a client does not attend an initial assessment appointment and does not call to cancel within 24 hours of the scheduled time, no further attempt is made to contact the client.  A letter will be sent to the referring agent stating the reason for discharge
  • When a client has been assessed and is receiving therapy on a regular basis, he/she may be discharged under therapist’s direction if three out of five consecutive therapy sessions are missed.  A letter will be sent to the client stating the reason for discharge and how to access further services
  • When a client is 15 minutes late for scheduled appointment, he/she will be seen for treatment at the therapist’s direction
  • A client who does not attend an appointment, and does not call to reschedule within one week, may be discharged
  • 24 hour notice is requested if the client is unable to keep the appointment
