Clinical Psychology Requirements

(January 2012)
1) Master’s degree in clinical psychology, doctorate-level degree preferred. (See note below for exceptions.)
2) Registration, either provisional or full, with the Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board (must be maintained during course of employment.) 

3) Supervised experience during master’s degree to be about 600 hours (400 hours minimum.)
4) Course work in the following areas:
    • Psychopathology (either child and/or adult)
    • Diagnosis using DSM IV
    • Evidence Based Therapy
    • Psychopharmacology
    • Psychometric Assessment
    • Ethics
5.   Demonstrated competence in the practice area

Candidates for psychology positions with a doctorate degree in psychology and without a clinical psychology designation may be considered if criteria two to five above have been met.
