Patients and Family

Occupational therapy staff work in the following programs of Eastern Health providing services to clients who may be inpatients, outpatients, long term care residents or living in the community. 
 
Children's  and Women’s Health

Janeway - St. John’s Inpatients
The health care team will access occupational therapy services as required. This can be initiated by interdisciplinary team member, patient or family.

Outpatient Services
Occupational therapy is offered as a component of several interdisciplinary teams including:
  • Rehabilitation Team:   709-777-4853
  • Child Development Team:  709-777-4957
  • Learning and Behavior Team:  709-777-4957
  • Craniofacial Team:   709-777-4957

Referrals require interdisciplinary team involvement and can be made by physician, community health nurse or family.

Acute care referrals are accepted from interdisciplinary team members, community health nurse or parent for feeding and fine-motor concerns up to the age of seven years and for orthopedic issues up to the age of 18 years.

Eastern Health has occupational therapy staff outreach clinic across the province.  Referrals to services can be initiated by family doctor, other health care professional, school or child/family.

Mental Health and Addictions

Waterford/ Health Sciences Centre/Janeway
Inpatients will access occupational therapy services as required. If you have questions about whether you or your family member should be assessed by an OT, please speak to a member of the inpatient team.

Occupational Therapists are also core team members on various multidisciplinary teams throughout the Mental Health & Addictions Program including:

  • Day Treatment Program
  • Case Management
  • Geriatric Psychiatry Day Hospital
  • Trauma Program

Rehabilitation and Continuing Care

L.A. Miller Centre Inpatient
Inpatients will access occupational therapy services as required. This can be initiated by physician, interdisciplinary team member, inpatient or family.

Inpatients will access occupational therapy services as required. This can be initiated by interdisciplinary team member, inpatient or family member.

Long Term Care – St. John’s

Residents may access occupational therapy services as required. If you have questions about whether you or your family member should be assessed by an OT, please speak to any member of the team.

Home and Community Care – St. John’s

There are community-based occupational therapy services for individuals 18 years of age and older. Referrals are accepted from the client, family physician and other healthcare professionals

Community Support Services

Occupational therapists are also core team members on various interdisciplinary teams throughout the Community Supports Services, including the Eastern Residential Support Board (ERSB), Alternate Family Care (AFC) and Special Assistance Equipment Program (SAP)

Rural Avalon
