Because of the strong magnetic field, MRI scans are not recommended for patients with:

  1. Pacemakers
  2. Blood vessel clips
  3. Implanted pumps
  4. Metal in the eyes or sockets
  5. Hearing implants
  6. Artificial limbs
  7. Other implanted metal devices
Patients have to remove metal objects such as watches and jewelry before entering the MRI scan room. As a precaution, pregnant women are not given MRI scans unless there is no alternative imaging option.

Please advise your doctor and the technologists performing the procedure of the following:

  • If there is any possibility that you could be pregnant

  • Any medications you are taking
  • History of asthma, heart, kidney problems or sickle cell anemia
