About Ethics Services

Our services include: ethics consultations, ethics education and policy review and development, as described below.
Ethics Consultations
Ethics consultations can be requested by patients, clients, residents, staff or volunteers. The reviews are managed by ethics consultation facilitators and conducted by gathering the appropriate and relevant mix of people to discuss the specific case in question.

A final report including  recommendations will be provided within the timelines that are identified when the request for an ethics review is made.
If you are unsure you require an ethics consult, please review our Clinical Ethics Screen Form (PDF), which will help you evaluate your need for the service. This screen is intended to help you focus on issues that allow you to identify a case or situation appropriate to refer for an ethics consultation.
To request an ethics review, you will need to fill out a Request for an Ethics Consultation Information Form (PDF) and send it to the contact information below.

Ethics Education

The Ethics Services has an ethics education plan and goal to influence the ethics culture of Eastern Health through education events and activities. These include:
  • Ethics education day each semester
  • Education sessions available through webinar and teleconference throughout EH and the other Regional Health Authorities
  • Special sessions are developed for specific areas in response to requests or issues from programs and services
  • Ethics for Lunch sessions
  • Annual Ethics Awareness Month (October)

Policy Review and Development

The Ethics Service provides support and assistance for policy review and development. Policy authors can forward draft policies for review, discussion and feedback.
