Our Team

In our emergency departments we have a specially trained team of doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners and other health professionals that work together to provide the best possible care for patients.
Eastern Health also partners with post-secondary institutions to offer students from the health professions with experience in a hospital setting. For this reason, sometimes students will provide care and service in our emergency departments as part of their education programs.
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program

Eastern Health has been providing the services of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program (SANE) since November 2005. The program operates out of the emergency department at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital.
The services provided by the SANE Program include:
  • On call nurses 24 hours a day, seven days a week for victims of sexual assault
  • Care for up to 96 hours after someone may have been assaulted
  • Services to both males and females 16 years and older
  • Sexual assault examination, including pertinent medical history and the history of the event
  • Forensic examination which includes head to toe assessment and collection of evidence
  • Treatment with prophylactic drugs for pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections
  • Information about community resources that can be accessed for ongoing support
  • Testimony in court if necessary

To contact the SANE program call St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital's Emergency Department at 777-5501 or the SANE Coordinator at 777-5865.
