A Renewed Commitment
Health care environments are full of built-in risk – for both clients and staff alike. That’s why focusing on quality and safety is so important to our organization. Our goal is always to provide the highest quality of care and service possible, and to ensure that the people providing the care - our staff - are kept safe, too.
Eastern Health was the first in the province to implement an electronic system for tracking and reporting adverse events and near misses, which is expanding to include all health care facilities in Newfoundland and Labrador, and we are leaders provincially and nationally in initiatives that reduce risk through the Safer Healthcare Now! program.
We reward safe thinking and risk reduction with our Good Catch awards and Safety Champions program. We are implementing a robust Occupational Health and Safety Program for our staff, and will ensure that policies and procedures for work processes with added risk, like situations where staff work alone, are in place.
Our goal over the next three years is to bring together the two sides of safety – staff and client – because we know healthy workplaces have a direct impact on the quality of care provided to clients.
