Ethics Committees

At Eastern Health, we strive to constantly improve the care our clients receive. Our priority is client- and family-centred care (CFCC) consisting of health care that is respectful, compassionate and focuses on the client and family needs, values and beliefs. 
 
Eastern Health has five well-established ethics committees that focus on different programs and service areas across the organization. 
 
We are recruiting for new volunteer community members 
 
We are now seeking additional community representatives to serve on any of the following ethics committees:
  • Adult Acute Care Ethics Committee
  • Children and Women’s Health Ethics Committee
  • Long-Term Care Ethics Committee
  • Administrative Ethics Committee
Community representatives are volunteer advisors that partner with employees and physicians to help improve the quality of care for all clients and family members.
 
Roles and Responsibilities of a Community Advisor with the Ethic Committees:
  • Provide advice and feedback as a member of the public.
  • Participate in activities and initiatives, such attend consultation sessions or review draft documents.
  • Volunteer in partnership with health-care professionals for either short or long-term projects which have a positive impact on ethical health of the organization.
  • Volunteer time (about 1-4 hours per month).
  • Participate by attending regular meetings, planned events, learning opportunities or focus groups.
The successful candidate must be:
  • Comfortable communicating in a group setting and working with others.
  • A good listener.
  • Personal experience with a particular program is not a pre-requisite.
  • Able to use any personal experience where applicable to make positive contribution to the work of the Ethics Service.
  • Able to work together with other families and health-care providers.
  • Respectful of others and their views.
  • Flexible and patient. 
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality. 
  • Willing to make a two-year volunteer commitment and participate in and attend volunteer orientation.
No special training or experience is required, only an interest and desire to participate as a citizen willing to share your own experience and advice on ethics activities and initiatives.
