2019 Winners

On June 24, 2019, Eastern Health presented its ninth annual CEO Awards of Excellence at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s. The awards were presented during Eastern Health’s Employee Recognition Week, June 24 to 28, 2019, which is a celebrated occasion to formally express appreciation to employees for their commitment to excellence in the workplace.
 
Individuals nominated were recognized by their colleagues or supervisors for their exceptional accomplishments and contributions in maintaining Eastern Health’s vision of Healthy People, Healthy Communities
 
A total of six winners were chosen from among a total of 58 nominations. Awards were presented in the categories of Client and Family-Centred Care, Human Spirit, Innovation, Leadership, Safety, and Service. The winners are as follows:
 
Client and Family-Centred Care (team award)
 
The Bell Island ODT Clinic Planning Team is the recipient of the Client and Family-Centred Care Award. The team is committed to providing a comprehensive, inclusive and adaptable program to clients and their families, so that they can access the health services needed to start their journey of recovery from opioid addiction. They are part of the Primary Health Care and Chronic Disease Prevention & Management Department at the Dr. Walter Templeman Health Centre.

Human Spirit 
Barry Efford, personal care attendant at the Janeway Children’s Health & Rehabilitation Centre, is the recipient of the Human Spirit Award. Barry brings joy and comfort to his patients, showing patience and kindness on their most difficult days. He goes above and beyond his job requirements to ensure that patients and staff feel respected and cared about. He is always willing to lend a hand or offer congratulations on the achievements of others.

Innovation
Tracy Sullivan, program manager with the Mental Health and Addictions Program, is the recipient of the Innovation Award. Tracy adapted a walk-in single session counselling model that has eliminated wait times for counselling, making help more accessible to people in need of support. It has changed the landscape of how mental health and addictions services are offered in the province.

Leadership
Norm Lace, regional director of the Pharmacy Department at Eastern Health, is the recipient of the Leadership Award. Norm is eager to mentor and provide encouragement, while focusing on excellence, and recognizing the efforts of others. He was the driving force in the implementation of the first Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Safety
Georgina Gallop, a laundry worker at Central Laundry, is the recipient of the Safety Award. Georgina consistently demonstrates the strategic priority of safety. She has been a leader, advocate and voice for her co-workers, encouraging them with visual demonstrations and constructive conversation.

Service
 
Angela Blackwood, a registered nurse with the Cancer Care Program, is the recipient of the Service Award. Angela gives 110 per cent every day, to ensure that patients receive a very high standard of care in an environment that is safe and comfortable, and where everyone is treated with respect and compassion.
