2016 CEO Awards of Excellence winners...
2016 Winners

Eastern Health presented its sixth annual CEO Awards of Excellence at the Heath Sciences Centre in St. John’s and at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville. The awards were presented during Eastern Health’s Employee Recognition Week, June 26 to July 2, 2016, which is a celebrated occasion to formally express appreciation to employees for their outstanding commitment to their work and delivering quality health care.

Individuals nominated were recognized by their colleagues or supervisors for their exceptional accomplishments and contributions in maintaining Eastern Health’s vision of Healthy People, Healthy Communities. A total of seven winners were chosen from among a total of 106 nominations.

Awards were presented in the categories of Innovation, Service Excellence, Leadership Excellence, Team Excellence, Mentoring, Safety and Community Capacity Building. The winners are as follows:

Connectedness (team award)
The Multidisciplinary Outbreak Team at Mount Pearl Square has contributed time, energy and talent in supporting the cooperation between internal and external partners during the 2014-2016 syphilis outbreak. The team has exemplified passion and professionalism in improving service delivery and health outcomes for clients.
Human Spirit

Janice Cooper
, personal care attendant with the Long-Term Care program at the Bonavista Golden Heights Manor, is a kind, optimistic and compassionate employee. She is determined to provide safe, quality care on every shift, and is an encouragement to those around her.

Lisa Hunt
, business continuity planning coordinator with Protection Services and the Health Emergency Management Division, has been accredited as the only certified health care business continuity specialist in the country. Lisa is taking health-care business continuity to new heights within Eastern Health. With her strategic thinking and innovation, she has developed a curriculum for the delivery of this training, which is being considered as a leading practice by Accreditation Canada.

Rex Colbourne
, major with the Long-Term Care program at the Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge, focuses on employee engagement. By mentoring, empowering, supporting and communicating with staff, Rex leads by example and encourages a respectful workplace.

Elaine Warren
, regional director of the Cancer Care Program at Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre, has been instrumental in empowering many employees to take a proactive role in their self-development in order to reach their full potential.

Shawn J. Layman, clinical pharmacist at the Health Sciences Centre and St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, is committed to promoting safety at Eastern Health. Shawn has been successful in improving the organization’s auditing system.
Service (team award)

The Carbonear Hospital Emergency Department LEAN Team has committed to making advancements in patient care when it comes to wait times, left-without-being-seen rates, and time to initial physician assessment.
