Then and Now

The Janeway Hospital opened in August of 1966, where it remained at its Pleasantville location for nearly three decades. The facility was named after in honour of Dr. Charles Alderson Janeway who was a tremendous advocate for the establishment of a separate pediatric care facility for Newfoundland and Labrador pediatricians.

On May 3, 2001, Eastern Health opened a new, state-of-the-art building as part of the Health Sciences Complex, where the name of the children’s hospital was adapted to what is known today as the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre.
