2014 CEO Awards of Excellence winners...
2014 Winners

Eastern Health is pleased to announce the recipients of the organization’s fourth annual CEO Awards of Excellence, presented on June 11, 2014 at the Holiday Inn in St. John’s. The awards are presented during Eastern Health’s Employee Recognition Week, which runs from June 9 to 13, 2014.

The CEO Award of Excellence is designed to recognize and express appreciation for employees who, by their outstanding contributions and achievements, help to support Eastern Health’s vision of Healthy People, Healthy Communities. Employees were nominated for the awards by either colleagues or supervisors. A total of seven winners were chosen from among 56 nominations.


Awards were presented in the categories of
Innovation, Service Excellence, Leadership Excellence, Team Excellence, Mentoring, Safety and Community Capacity Building. The winners are as follows:
 

Innovation

The Business Continuance Disaster Recovery Core Project Team has shown outstanding commitment and innovation through the development of advanced infrastructure. The team has designed and implemented one of the most complex information networks in the province that would allow important information to be recovered quickly in a disaster situation.
 
 
Service Excellence

Wayne Walsh has been a personal care assistant for the Radiation Therapy Department at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre since 1988. He has a knack for raising the spirits of not only patients, but also the staff at the centre. Wayne helps put patients who are frightened and nervous at ease with his kind words and humour and has a true understanding of his patients’ needs. 
 
 
Leadership Excellence

Philip O’Neil is a regional manager with the Pharmacy Department, whose impact has transformed the pharmacy at the Health Sciences Centre. Philip models qualities of honesty, integrity, resilience and confidence and actively seeks opportunities for personal learning character building and growth. He exemplifies the type of leadership that is needed to create an environment of respect, accountability and engagement.
 
 
Team Excellence

The Aria Implementation Team is a dynamic and highly motivated team that were tasked with the implementation of a full electronic medical record for the Provincial Cancer Care Program. The team is comprised of experts from a variety of professional areas, who came together to successfully implement a system that has contributed immensely to improving efficiency for patients in the Cancer Care Program.
 
 
Mentoring

Liska Burt
is a social worker with the Mental Health and Addictions Program in Bonavista who for 32 years has both motivated and empowered her team, co-workers and community. Liska has devoted her entire career to staying involved in her workplace, developing programs, supporting interns and coworkers and supporting her community.
 
 
Safety

Heather Clarke
is a registered nurse of 26 years who works at the Carbonear General Hospital Emergency Department
. Heather is a safety advocate who is instrumental in the development of safety initiatives in many areas of the workplace. Patients respect and admire Heather’s professionalism and commitment to safety. 
 
Community Capacity Building

The Regional Palliative Care Leadership Team is a knowledgeable, personable, and dedicated group comprised of individuals who strive to provide outstanding support in palliative and end-of-life care in the community. The team has improved access to palliative and end-of-life care by providing clinical and community partners with resources, tools and education sessions.
