Congratulations to St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital 2012 Auxiliary Scholarship Winners

The St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital Auxiliary presents four annual scholarships valued at $500 each to active St. Clare’s volunteers. Scholarships are awarded in January of each year.

The well-deserving winners for 2012 were:

Sydney Greene
Sydney is pursuing a Science degree at Memorial University with a major in Psychology. Along with various academic awards, she has also been an active volunteer with the Duke of Edinburgh Program, her high school Year Book Committee and is captain of her soccer team. Sydney has volunteered at St. Clare’s since May 2010.

Sarah Garland
Sarah is pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Memorial University. She has been involved in a wide variety of volunteer activities including Riley’s Happy Face Foundation; she is coach of her soccer team, editor of her high school newspaper, and is a volunteer with Coats for Kids and the CIBC Run for the Cure. Sarah feels that listening to the stories and experiences of our patients has given her a new perspective and in many ways has been life-changing for her. Sarah has volunteered at St. Clare’s since May 2010.

Jiyi Liu (Chelsea)
Chelsea is in her second year of the Business Program at Memorial University with a goal set on becoming a Chartered Accountant. She feels that both her studies and her volunteer work are important in helping prepare her for her future career. Chelsea has also recently achieved the Silver Level Award of the Volunteer Incentive Program with Memorial University. Chelsea has volunteered at St. Clare’s since July 2010.

Emily Gorner
Emily is presently attending Memorial University with a major in Biochemistry and minor in Psychology. She has volunteered with the Gower Community Band, Girl Guides of Canada and the CBS Music School.
