Frequently Asked Questions

Is attendance at General Orientation mandatory?
Yes, all new staff and physicians must attend orientation before starting work in Eastern Health

When and where is General Orientation held in my area?
In St. John’s, orientation is usually held on the first Monday of the month in the Auditorium of the Administrative Office on Waterford Bridge Road.

 
On the Burin Peninsula, orientation is held the third Tuesday of each month in the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre.

For Clarenville and the Bonavista Peninsula, orientation is held the first Tuesday of each month at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital.

For Carbonear and area, orientation is usually held on the first Monday of each month in Carbonear General Hospital.

A time, location and details will be provided to you by a representative in Human Resources.

What do I wear to General Orientation?
We want you to be comfortable therefore business casual dress is acceptable.

Where do I park?
Parking is limited at most Eastern Health locations. You may want to arrange to be dropped off in the morning and picked up at the end of the day.
  • St. John’s: limited parking is available in front of the building and in the overflow area
  • Burin: staff are asked to park on the main parking lot and not in the front parking lot as this area is for short term parking.
  • Clarenville: staff are requested to park in either of the side parking lots.  The lot directly in front of the hospital is reserved for visitors and physicians.
  • Carbonear: staff are requested to use the staff or visitor parking lot.

Is cafeteria service available for coffee break and lunch?
Breaks and lunch will be provided. If you have any allergies please notify the education consultant

I have questions about payroll, insurance coverage and other benefits. Who do I speak with?

I did not get a letter of offer in the mail. Where do I go after General Orientation?

My letter of offer states that I am a temporary staffing employee. What does that mean?
Temporary staffing means that you are assigned to an on-call list. Your hours of work are based on the needs of the department. You will be called when needed.

When should I expect my first paycheck?
You can expect your first cheque three or fours week after you start work.

Can General Orientation be completed on-line?
At this point we do not have an on-line orientation program.

I am a new nurse starting with EH.   How long is Nursing Orientation?
Nursing Orientation varies by clinical program. Plan for a week and you will get additional information at general orientation.

Do I need to bring any identification to General Orientation? 
 
Yes a photo ID is required.
