Collaborating with Partners

Collaborating with Partners

Partnerships are of tremendous importance to Eastern Health and are inherent in the organization’s vision and values. Partnerships are encouraged at various levels from direct program and service delivery to policy and advocacy. At the community level the Board of Trustees has held community stakeholder meetings and the organization has conducted community health needs assessments in almost the entire region, with the final assessment to be conducted in the Trinity-Conception area. Eastern Health also works with professional associations, regulatory boards, unions, school boards, police, ambulance service providers and numerous other agencies. Our partnerships are the cornerstone of true collaboration for providing many benefits to individuals and their communities.

We work very closely with officials from:

Educational Institutions and Organizations

Eastern Health has partnerships with over 40 educational institutions and organizations to help educate the next generation of health providers. Eastern Health has a particularly strong affiliation with Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) in achieving its mandate of education and research. Eastern Health has permanent representation on the Board of Directors of both the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Applied Health Research (NLCAHR) and the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (NLCHI).

Foundations

Eastern Health’s many foundations play a tremendous role in the health care sector by assisting with specific health care equipment needs.
We acknowledge the role of the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers of each of our seven foundations:

Community-Based Groups

Eastern Health continues to enhance working relationships with a number of community-based groups that have been devolved to the organization.

These groups provide a broad range of services including:

  • Child care services (e.g., Daybreak Parent Child Centre)
  • Women’s shelters (e.g., Iris Kirby House)
  • Youth diversion (i.e. Burin-Placentia West Alternative Measures Program)

Wellness Coalitions

Eastern Health supports two wellness coaltions. The coalitions encourage community engagement and provide opportunities for people to become involved in community action around issues that affect their health and wellbeing.

Schools

Eastern Health is working with the schools within its region to promote a health lifestyle by eating and exercising.

Living Healthy

Eastern Health partners with the Eastern School District to provide education to school-aged children and produce the Living Healthy Newsletter, a regional newsletter that highligths accomplishments and information on health promotion programs and resources.
Lung Association

Eastern Health has partnerships within the organization to help promote unity and team work. One of these partnerships is with the Lung Association. Eastern Health was given the award of President’s Vote of Thanks Award for our work in promoting healthy breathing for all patients, clients, residents, visitors and staff at our facilities and offices. They are recognizing the work Eastern Health has done in developing and implementing a Smoke Free Environment policy as well as incorporating the CARE Fax Referral Program as part of our policy.
