Medical Imaging

As updated on May 13, 2020, in COVID-19 Alert Level 4, we started the process of gradually resuming some services throughout the region, including medical imaging.
 
Appointments for radiography (X-rays), ultrasounds, computed tomography (CT scan), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), fluoroscopy, mammography and nuclear medicine (PET/CT scans) are proceeding.
 
Medical imaging clerks are calling patients whose appointments are going ahead and as of June 29, we have resumed sending letters for Medical Imaging appointments. If you receive a letter in the mail, please proceed with your appointment, as indicated in your letter.  
 
All requests for interventional procedures (e.g. angiography) are going ahead. Requests are prioritized and scheduled accordingly. Patients can expect a phone call by medical imaging booking clerks to confirm the appointment date and time, and to communicate patient instructions on how to prepare for the procedure.

X-rays
 
Medical imaging clerical staff have began calling patients to book their X-ray appointments. Physicians are asked to fax their patients’ requisitions to the Medical Imaging site of choice, and the clerical will call the patients to make an appointment. Please note, we are no longer accepting phone calls from patients and physicians to book their X-Ray appointment.

During the month of November, 38,164 procedures were completed, maintaining the resumption of normal operations*. This also represents an increase of 45 per cent in service volume from June to November 2020.
 
*Normal operations are defined by the median pre COVID-19 monthly service volume. Data is based on the total number of medical imaging exams completed across Eastern Health. Read full disclaimer on data.
