Seniors Programs

The Geriatric Psychiatry Program has services located at the Waterford Hospital, Pleasant View Towers, and Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre in St. John’s.

What we do
We provide services to seniors who develop mental illness or mental health issues later in life, as follows: 
Inpatient Units
Inpatient Units provides acute, day hospital and residential mental health services for people 65 years of age and older. It offers assessment and treatment of geriatric patients who present with a variety of psychiatric, cognitive and behavioural (associated with dementia) disorders.
Unit East 2A at Waterford Hospital provides acute care services. Unit N2A at Waterford Hospital and Unit 4 South West located at the Pleasant View Towers long-term care facility provide specialized residential services to persons with mental illness, complicated by dementia or other neurological processes. 
Geriatric Psychiatry Day Hospital
In addition to the above, the Geriatric Psychiatry Day Hospital at the Waterford provides mental health outpatient services to people who develop mental illness (including dementia) or mental health difficulties later in life. The program has three components:
  • Outpatient Clinic for Assessment and Treatment 
  • Community Outreach
  • Day Hospital operating Monday to Friday.
The Geriatric Psychiatry Day Hospital operates Monday to Friday.
