A thank-you message from President and CEO David Diamond to Eastern Health volunteers
If you were asked to describe an Eastern Health volunteer, you may find it difficult to come up with a one-size-fits-all description. That’s because our volunteers come from all walks of life – some bring the energy of youth, some bring wisdom from many years of service. Other volunteers bring the gift of music, a glimpse of a different culture, or maybe something as simple as lending a helping hand.
If you were to ask a volunteer why they give their time to help others, their answers will likely be different as well – but what will surely resonate in all their responses will be their desire to help and to be part of something bigger than themselves.
During the past year, over 2200 volunteers contributed more than 60,000 hours of their time to this organization.
What may seem like a routine task to a volunteer, can have a lifelong impact for the person on the receiving end.
This year’s theme for Volunteer Appreciation Week - Volunteering Shapes Lives - reflects not only the impact they have on our patients, residents and clients, but how volunteering shapes volunteers themselves - into generous, compassionate individuals. Their contributions enrich our vision of Healthy People, Healthy Communities.
Many of us interact and work with volunteers and have witnessed their generous commitment. I encourage you to take the time this week, and throughout the year, to say thank you for the work they do.
On behalf of Eastern Health, I wish to thank our volunteers for giving of their time, their care, and for the exceptional service they provide.
President and CEO, Eastern Health
