Parking

The Bonavista Peninsula Health Centre has free parking available and accessible to all patients and their families. Disabled parking is available near the clinic entrance and behind the hospital.

Admission:

Patients being admitted to the hospital should arrive at 12:30 pm. This applies to Sunday admissions as well as during the week. Go directly to the Admissions Office to see the clerk. The admitting clerk will ask you a number of questions. When the admissions process is complete, you will be brought to your room.
The nurse will explain any equipment that is in the room and take you on a tour of the unit so that you will feel familiar with your surroundings.
If you have dentures, eyeglasses, hearing aids, or contact lenses remember to use the proper storage containers. Proper storage will ensure that they are not mistakenly thrown in the garbage. Do not wrap items in tissues, towels, etc. or leave them in common areas.
Your hospital bed is probably higher and narrower than your bed at home. You may also find that the medications and treatments you receive will make you feel unsteady. For these reasons please ask for help when getting in or out of bed unless the nurse feels that you are well enough to do this alone. For your safety the nurse may also raise one or both side rails on your bed, especially at night.

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours are from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. If you wish to have more than two visitors at a time, please respect the needs of others and great your visitors in the patient lounge.
Children under 14 years of age are welcome to visit as long as they are with an adult. Please ensure that children do not disturb other patients or interfere with patient care.
If you are on a special diet, please tell your family and friends so that they do not bring food for you. If you are unsure if you can accept gifts of food, please ask the nurse.

Meals

The goal of the Nutritional Services Department is to provide you with safe and nutritional food during your stay at the hospital. A dietician can also provide nutritional counseling services if your doctor requests this service.
If you are on a special diet (e.g. low sodium, fat free) the Dietician will explain it to you. Sometimes there are foods that will not be given to you as part of your treatment. If you have questions about your diet, please ask the nurse and he/she will arrange for the Dietician to visit you. Food plays an important role in your recovery.
Trays are delivered and collected by the Nutritional Services Department. Please ensure your bedside table is cleared before each meal.
Meal times are as follows: Breakfast: 8:00 am Lunch: 12:00 pm Supper: 4:45 pm

Check out
Your doctor may decide that you can go home anytime during the day but normally you will be discharged in the morning after a final visit from your doctor. If you need help getting ready to leave, please ask your nurse. If the results of all your tests are not available before you are discharged, a copy of all reports will be sent to your family doctor. You are advised to make a follow-up appointment with your family doctor, or with the doctor who cared for you during your hospital stay, to discuss all test results, treatment, and follow-up care.
