Intervention Services - Children and Youth
Direct Home Services Program: Is a home-based early intervention program for preschool children (birth up to school entry). Children are eligible for the program if they exhibit either a one year delay in social, language/communication, physical, self-help or academic/cognitive areas of development or a six month delay in any two of the five previously identified areas of development.
The program is voluntary and requires consent for involvement by parents or caregivers. Service is delivered by Developmental & Behavioral Practitioners. Early intervention plan goals are developed and reviewed in the home during weekly home visits with the child and family. This service turns to bi-weekly home visits after six months of service.
Direct Home Services Program -Autism Services: Is an intensive early behavioural and skill teaching intervention program for pre grade one children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Families are eligible for funding for an intensive Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) home therapy program of up to 30 hours per week. Once children start school, children may continue with home therapy, up to 15 hours per week, outside of school hours, during their kindergarten year only. Services are provided by professionals trained extensively in applied behavioural analysis/discrete trial teaching and curriculum development/implementation for children diagnosed with ASD, known as Senior Therapists.
Community Behavioural Services Program (CBSP): is a home- and community-based behaviour management program for school age children. Service is delivered by a Developmental & Behavioral Practitioners. The intervention involves the administration of functional and behavioural assessments, development and review of behavioural programming, and training of parents and/or caregivers in behavioural techniques.
The CBSP comprises two programs:1) Young Developmental: An individual is deemed eligible for the CBSP-Young Developmental program if he/she has an identifiable behavioral concern and a diagnosis of mental retardation as encompassed in the AAMD (1992) definition. If a significant cognitive delay is suspected in the absence of a clinical diagnosis of mental retardation, an individual may be eligible for the Young Developmental program. 2) Children and Youth Behavioral Support: An individual (school-age up to 16 years) is deemed eligible for the CBSP-Children and Youth Behavioral Support program if he/she is referred by a CYFS social worker and presents with a behavioral concern in the absence of a diagnosis of mental retardation. The CBSP is voluntary and requires consent for involvement by clients, parents, caregivers and/or guardians.
If a significant cognitive delay is suspected in the absence of a clinical diagnosis of mental retardation, an individual may be eligible for the Young Developmental program.
2) Children and Youth Behavioral Support: An individual (school-age up to 16 years) is deemed eligible for the CBSP-Children and Youth Behavioral Support program if he/she is referred by a CYFS social worker and presents with a behavioral concern in the absence of a diagnosis of mental retardation. The CBSP is voluntary and requires consent for involvement by clients, parents, caregivers and/or guardians.
Special Child Welfare Allowance Program The Special Child Welfare Allowance Program provides both clinical and financial support in the provision of services to families of children with a diagnosis of developmental and /or physical disabilities who meet the financial criteria. The child must live with his/her parents or legal guardian. A financial and clinical assessment is completed to determine eligibility for service.
