DR. W.H. NEWHOOK COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE

The W.H. Newhook Community Health Centre is located in Whitbourne and provides primary care and 24 hour emergency care. Three holding/observation beds are available and utilized, however, patients are generally assessed, treated and discharged or transferred to secondary or tertiary care centres. Laboratory and radiology services are available during designated hours. A family practice clinic operates from this site, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Family Practice Clinics – Monday to Friday, including one at Chapel Arm which operates 3 days per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday)
Diagnostic Services – Lab, X-ray (8 a.m. to 10 p.m. 7 days a week) After hours referred to Carbonear or St. John’s.
X-rays: All regular routine X-rays, special procedures referred out
Ambulatory Care Services, EKG, Holter Monitoring, Blood Pressure Monitoring, Chemotherapy, Intravenous Medications
Diabetes Education Program
Visiting Services: Dietitian, Respiratory Therapist, Mental Health Counsellor
Outreach Programs: Well Woman Clinics, Men’s Health Clinics, etc .
Memorial University Teaching Program (ie. Residents, Clinical Clerks, Medical Students, Foreign Medical Graduates)
Research: Centre for Rural Health Studies

Location

The Dr. Wm. H. Newhook Community Health Centre is located in Whitbourne, accessible off the Trans Canada Highway 1.

Parking

The Dr. Wm. H. Newhook Community Health Centre has free parking available and accessible to all patients and their families. Disabled parking is available near the clinic entrance.

Meals:

No cafeteria or gift shop on site. For those patients held in Emergency/Observation, meals /snacks can be provided.
