DR. G.B. CROSS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Location
The Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital is located Clarenville, on Manitoba Drive, accessible off the Trans Canada Highway.

Admission

Patients for planned admission to the hospital should arrive at 12:30 pm. This applies to Sunday admissions as well as during the week. Please bring your Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital blue card, MCP card and insurance number (if you have insurance).
Rooms are assigned by the Admitting Clerk. A limited number of private and semi-private accommodations are available. Priority is given to patients who have a medical condition requiring a private room. Requests for private or semi-private rooms should be directed to the Admitting Clerk. When patients request private or semi-private accommodations they will be charged a rate determined by the provincial government. The Admitting Officer will advise you of the cost. There is no charge for the 4 bed ward room.

Visiting Hours

Medicine/Surgery

Visiting hours are 2 pm - 9 pm. Children 14 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult and may visit only at the discretion of a nurse.
Pediatrics
Parents may visit at any time. Other children, accompanied by parents, may visit with prior approval from a nurse.
Parents are encouraged to stay with their child and participate in their care as much as possible. A reclining chair can be set up in the child’s room for a parent to rest at night. Nursing staff are available at all times.

Intensive Care

Immediate family members can visit with prior approval from a nurse. Visitors are restricted to one person at a time. Rest period is 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm daily.

Palliative Care

Immediate family is permitted unlimited visiting privileges only with the permission of the nurse or doctor.

Obstetric Unit and Birthing Room

Visiting hours are 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
Fathers, grandparents, and the mother’s own children have unlimited visiting privileges only with the permission of the nurse or doctor.
One designated person may stay with the patient in the Birthing Room.
There will be no exchange of visitors to the Birthing Room.
To protect the privacy of the patient during Labor and Delivery, visitors are not permitted to wait in the corridor outside the birthing room.

Meals

A menu is sent with the supper tray for the next day’s dinner, supper and following day’s breakfast. Please complete the menu and have it ready for collection after supper.
Your diet is ordered by your doctor. Certain conditions require a special therapeutic diet as part of your medical treatment. This may limit the kinds of foods you eat. The dietitian or food supervisor is available to discuss your special diet.
Trays are delivered and collected by the Nutritional Services Department. Please ensure your bedside table is cleared before each meal. Mealtimes are: Breakfast - 8 am; Dinner - 12 noon; Supper - 5pm

Check-out

The results of all your tests may not be available before you are discharged. A copy of all reports is sent to your family doctor. You are advised to make a follow-up appointment with your family doctor, or with the doctor who cared for you during your hospital stay, to discuss all test results, treatment and follow-up care.
Appointments with hospital doctors or clinicians (eg. Physiotherapy, Respiratory Therapy, Dietitian) may be made by contacting the Booking Office at 466-5381 or 466-5263.
