ST. CLARES MERCY HOSPITAL

St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital is a tertiary, adult acute care hospital which has been serving the people of Newfoundland and Labrador since 1922 under the guidance of the Sisters of Mercy.

In 1994, the Sisters of Mercy reached an agreement with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador regarding the transfer of ownership of the hospital. As part of this agreement, the Sisters still maintain a presence in the hospital and continue with the mission, vision, values, philosophy and ethical principles of St. Clare’s. As a teaching hospital, St. Clare’s is affiliated with Memorial University’s Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing.

Location

St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital is located in the downtown core of St. John’s on LeMarchant Road.

Admission:

The Admitting Department is located in the main hospital corridor just inside the main entrance. Please proceed to admissions before going to your care area unless otherwise notified.

Room Accommodation:
There are three types of accommodations offered to patients:

Wards – 4 beds per room
Semi Private – 2 beds per room
Private Room – 1 bed per room

Patients who request a private or semi-private room must make a deposit. This can be paid by cash, cheques or credit card. Unless the deposit is received, you will not be considered as having requested a private or semi-private room.

Semi Private - $85 per day
Private - $100 per day
Deposit - $200 (with proof of insurance) $300 (without insurance)

Please note: If you receive a private room, you will be required to move if a sicker patient is in need of a private room and no other one is available. You will not be charged for the room once you move out and we will try to get you back in a private room as soon as one is available.

Meals:
For your first day or two in hospital, you will receive food choices from a standard menu. After that you will receive menus to select your meals.
Mealtimes are as follows:

Breakfast – 7:45am to 8:30am
Lunch – 11:45am to 12:30pm
Supper – 4:45pm to 5:30pm

If you have problems or concerns about your meals, please let your nurse know or ask to see a Food Services supervisor or your dietician.

Check out:

On the day of discharge, it is important to leave the hospital before 11am. This will allow the room to be prepared for the next patient.
Take your information and instructions about medication, care at home, and any follow-up appointments.
Take all your personal belongings, including any medications you may have brought with you to the hospital.
Disconnect your phone and television.
Go to the cashier’s office to pay your bill.

Parking/Buses/Taxis

St. Clare's Mercy Hospital has coin-operated metered parking and permit parking areas.
Temporary permits for long-term parking are available – contact Security for details.
Our parking lots are patrolled regularly by security, but please do not leave anything of value in your vehicle.
