Nursing HomesNursing Homes are publicly funded facilities that offer care to people who need moderate to total assistance with daily functioning. Eastern Health monitors the region’s nursing homes to ensure compliance with the Long Term Care Facilities in Newfoundland and Labrador Operational Standards. Each home has skilled staff in numerous departments which includes: Physician servicesPharmacy services (provided by community pharmacies and Eastern Health’s pharmacy department)NursingSocial workPsychologyPastoral carePhysiotherapyOccupational therapyClinical nutritionTherapeutic recreation and support services In addition to these homes, Eastern Health operates beds at the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion at the Leonard A. Miller Centre in St. John’s. Access to these beds is facilitated by Veterans Affairs Canada. Eastern Health also has a public/private partnership with Chancellor Park Nursing Home in St. John’s where a number of beds are accessed through the Single Entry System. Personal Care HomesPersonal Care Homes are licensed, privately owned and operated residential homes for senior citizens and other adults who need minimal to moderate assistance with activities of daily living. These homes are licensed by Eastern Health in consultation with the Government Service Centre. They are monitored by a team of professionals on an ongoing basis, including a yearly review of Provincial Operational Standards.
