The Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) program provides services for all acute and long term care facilities within Eastern Health and liaison services to Community Health.

• To protect patients/residents/clients from health care associated infections
• To provide education to employees to assist with preventing the spread of infections within Eastern Health.

• Surveillance of health care associated infections (i.e. Methicillin Resistant Staphylocoocus Aureus (MRSA), C. difficile, surgical site infections, central line infections and ventilator associatated pneumonias.
• Implementation of evidence based practices, standards and guidelines through regional policies and procedures.
• Direct interventions to prevent the transmission of infection, including outbreak prevention and control
• Education and training of health care providers, patients/residents/clients and their families
• Communication of infection related issues and current practices to management and staff to facilitate improvement
• Ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of the IPAC program.
