Ms. Butland has a proven reputation for developing solid relationships in complex situations: in business leadership guiding firms; entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations through planning, awareness campaigns, issue management and growth; in mine-related projects from start-up plans for Vale’s Long Harbour Processing Plant to owner interests in re-opening Wabush mine; indigenous relations; and sectors that impact rural Newfoundland and Labrador from aquaculture to tourism.
Ms. Butland is active in several professional and industry associations and within the community.
Mr. Miller became a co-owner of Sherwood Suites accommodations in Port Rexton in 2015. He also spends a great deal of his time volunteering in various roles on the Bonavista Peninsula, including his position as mayor of the Town of Trinity since 2005; chairperson of Cape Random Trust/Random Passage Site in New Bonaventure; chairperson of the Discovery Regional Services Board; and is a member of various other committees in the Bonavista Peninsula region.
In recognition of his work in relation to supporting partnerships and regional tourism initiatives, he was awarded the Doug Wheeler Award, Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2010 and the Queen's Jubilee Medal in 2012 in recognition of his community service. Mr. Miller holds a Bachelor of Arts from Memorial University of Newfoundland, with a concentration in Newfoundland and Labrador history, and a Certificate in Fund Raising Management from the College of the North Atlantic.
Mr. Tessier has been active on a number of volunteer and regulatory boards in the province. He has been a member of the Eastern Health Board of Trustees since 2019; Board Chair of the C-NLOPB from 2013 -2019; and a member of the Board of Directors of the Marine Environmental Observation, Prediction and Response Network, also known as MEOPAR, since 2014. In his capacity as CEO of the C-NLOPB, Scott is also an observer on the Board of One Ocean.
Mr. Tessier was born and raised in St. John’s and holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Memorial University. He volunteers as an elementary school basketball coach, and he and his wife have three young children.
Before joining uWaterloo, Dr. Thompson was a vice president of the Eastern Regional Health Authority. Having started her career as a nurse, she has held executive and senior leadership experience in health care, government, education, and private business sector. Her community activities include serving on the boards of the Community Services Council and as spokesperson for the Cabot Habitat for Humanity Women Build Project as well as president of the St. John’s Board of Trade and the Newfoundland and Labrador Chambers of Commerce. Dr. Thompson received an RN diploma from the SA Grace General Hospital School of Nursing and holds a Bachelor of Nursing (MUN), Master of Education (Toronto) and Doctor of Philosophy (Toronto).
Dr. Thompson also holds appointments with the Association of Commonwealth Universities, HR Network; Excellence Canada; Lean Higher Education; and Network for Change and Continuous Innovation.
Throughout her career, she served on various provincial committees, including the Provincial Laboratory Workload Measurement (chair), Provincial Laboratory Dictionary, Workforce Planning, and Provincial Working Group for implementation of Recommendations of the Cameron Inquiry into Hormone Receptor Testing. Ms. Wade directed the implementation of the Eastern Health regional laboratory quality management system and the subsequent accreditation of all Eastern Health laboratories to ISO15189 standards.
Ms. Wade holds a Bachelor of Technology (MUN), Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (CNA) and a Certificate in Laboratory Quality Management (UBC).
